An interest in pre and First World War 1 aircraft lead to the company being called after Werner Voss. Werner Voss was a World War 1 German fighter pilot and was credited with forty eight combat victories. He flew with Manfred von Richthofen, The Red Baron and commanded Jasta 10 as part of the Richthofens Jagdgeschwaden 1, the so called "Flying Circus". The ace was awarded the Pour le Merite (The Blue Max) the highest decoration for German World War 1 pilots. Werner Voss was shot down and killed in a Fokker Dr1 triplane on the 23 September 1917 whilst engaging up to eight RFC's SE5's single handed. He was 20 years old.
